Monolith

The design is a black monolith (evolution and mystery symbolism) containing an inner shell with space for books. A shelter or meditation point at the last tree line that separates the Lodge from the mountain. Driven by the feeling of awe by standing in this location, I created this design as a symbolism of Nietzsche’s Zarathustra first encounter with the world after he left his solitude in the mountain. The outer surface material is charred timber which provides longevity and weather resistance. For winter protection, wind blockers can be slid down from the interior on demand. Between the wind blockers and the shell, there is space for books that wanderers can spend their time with under the protection of the shelter. The structure is designed in a way that the environment view is blocked from the person that uses it. This way the attention is diverted from the macrocosm to the microcosm underneath the person's feet and thoughts about the human scale correlations will arise.
